Patience. Weather check. Patience. Radar check. Patience. Clock check. Patience. More patience.
Not so many days were left trying to make one last big hike all together. The best one was that day, too bad it was the cloudiest day ever! Everything was ready: backpack, food, water, camera, clothes... RAIN! That bloody rain was ruining that perfect day had to be. But just wait, wait and see up in the sky if something good could happen before the last cableway departure before lunch break. More daring than ever we left home as a shy piece of blue sky appeared over there.
No more time could have been wasted, so I pushed harder and harder despite the heavy load on my shoulders. The good grip on the soft wet ground gave me the stimulus of going faster until I touched the Arta Land in a record 56:29. There I maybe took two big breathes and then up again exploiting everything on the last climb. In the meantime the clouds were breaking below me leaving space to a phenomenal clear blue sky, the right reward for that infinite wait.
Hearing some screams just over me, I thought they were my friends and actually they were!
On last hundred metres I just remember the legs moving quicker and quicker and some cheers like "DAI TORO!" aiming to set a new terrific PB... And yes it was: 1h12mins to reach Nicola's hut in a sweat!
There we finally grouped, ate something, took some ignorant GoPro pics and got the spirit of climbing the Soda peak.
Step by step I tracked the easiest line to them while taking astonishing pics like we were at incredible altitudes. Then, the touch at the Madonnina and some well deserved relax, alone, just us. But the excitement had not finished yet! The tricky technical downhill made them say to me some bad words but with a great calm we escaped that danger grandly!
Hopefully they got back reinforced in mind and body (ass for girls, for sure), conscious of what they managed to do and willing to go farther next times. Climbing the cutest peak in HeartAvaggio, il SODA
