Sound waves consist of alternating expansion and compression. These waves are able to travel faster in water because it is 800 times denser and 15,000 more times compressible than air. Water allows sound to bounce back from each compression four times faster due to the water’s density. Sound waves need a substance to travel through such as air, liquid, or solids therefore it does not exist in outer space. Space is a vacuum with nothing to carry the sound. This was captured with a Nikon D850 and breakthrough filters. Have a terrific Thursday!
