Since Jupiter is in the sky, I went out with my equipment to snap a few shots. You can make out Jupiter and three of the moons. The first image is from my Nikon d3300 @300mm and the second image is from my Canon sx710 point and shoot camera. You don't need a $1000 setup to have fun! #phoenix #arizona #instagramaz #astronomy #abc15 #cbs5az #beon12 #azfamily #longexposure #igsouthwest #explorearizona #igersphx #lonelyplanet #universetoday #astrophotography #westbysouthwest #nightphotography #weownthenight_az #space #jupiter #backyardastronomer #backyardphotography #stars #night

This section of the Superstition Wilderness is now probably burning 😐 but I did read the firefighters will probably be able to save the Reavis Ranch area 🙌

“Some men just want to watch the world burn.” . . . The #woodburyfire today in the Superstition wilderness... still barely contained! A reminder of what one initially ‘small’ mistake can cause. Stay safe out there!

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” -Bill Bryson

Desert Blooms 🌵🌺 📷 @pachucos_art ・・・ Good morning! 🏜🌵💮💮💮💮"Saguaro flowers are usually found near the tops of the stems and arms of the cactus. They are white in color about 3 inches (8cm) in diameter. They emit a strong smell, sort of like overripe melons. During the night the flowers are pollinated by the lesser long-nosed bat and the Mexican long-tongued bat. During the daytime the flowers are pollinated by bees and birds such as the white-winged dove" #azwildflowers #weroamarizona #deserttortoise #arizona_hiking #arizona_landscapes #arizonahiking #azwildlife #instagramaz #capturearizona #oh_arizona #arizonahighways #canon_photos #igsouthwest #ig_southwest #tucson #igerstucson #visittucson #photooftheday #conquerarizona   #fox10phoenix #Beon12   #explorearizona_ #see_arizona #abc15 #iamazproud #divine_deserts #exploring_arizona #whyilovewhereilive #westbysouthwest #tucsonnewsnow

When we hiked part of West Fork Trail a few days ago we only went about 4 miles in (it’s 14 if you do the whole thing). We hiked in by walking through the creek instead of the trail which not only kept us cooler but gave us gorgeous creek views and encounters with fish, tadpoles, snakes, lizards, and a giant doe! Wading through thigh-deep water at times made for a more strenuous hike, but also much more interesting!

Even though most people think rattlesnakes are not out during the hot part of the day, I have found rattlesnakes roaming around in temperatures up to 105° so keep your eyes open! 🐍 "Due to the strong sun and hot days, rattlesnakes hide in the shade and cool places during the summer. They then come out towards dusk and will be most active during the night, crawling back into their shady places soon after sunrise. What this means for the hiker or camper is that before sundown and lasting til just after sunrise, a person needs to be careful about where you step – not always easy at night! Because of this, it is never a real good idea to head out on a hike during the night-time hours through rattlesnake country. While the odds are low that you’ll step on one, the possibilitiy DOES exist – and one you need to be aware of" #greaterroadrunner #weroamarizona #koldnews13 #arizona_hiking #arizona_landscapes #arizonahiking #azwildlife #azstateparks #capturearizona #oh_arizona #arizonahighways #canon_photos #igsouthwest #ig_southwest #tucson #igers_tucson #visittucson #photooftheday #conquerarizona   #fox10phoenix #Beon12   #explorearizona_ #see_arizona #abc15 #iamazproud #divine_deserts #exploring_arizona #whyilovewhereilive #westbysouthwest #tucsonnewsnow

Last night @haughtshots and I decided to find a good spot to go to see the moon rise over the Woodbury fire. 🌝🔥 We took his amazeballs truck and went four wheeling through the desert trying to get to where the cursor is in the last photo. After driving and driving we got to some pretty intense roads and realized we didn’t have enough time to get to the spot we wanted before the moon was going to rise…so we found a spot with saguaros and a good enough view of the moon rising with the fire (which was farther away than we hoped). When the moon started to come up it was SOOO red and the sky and smoke were illuminated with red. It was a very intense sight to see. Even though we didn’t get to the vantage point we hoped for it was still a unique experience and this is the best photo I could get of what occurred. Can’t tell you how very sad I am about this fire. Last I heard it was now more than 40k acres. I hope it is able to be stopped soon. 😭 We also got to see the sunset in the desert (which you all know is my fave). 🙃 @haughtshots is the one who figured out where we should go to get this shot. He says, “For anyone curious as to how we lined up this shot ... we took the moonrise coordinates and time (117° on the horizon with a rise time of 8:12pm), found that degree angle on a 3D aerial map, lined that up with the most current map of the fire, determined a high point on the 117° line, and mapped out a route based on roads (mostly forest service roads) that got us closest to that point.”

Close up of a sonoran desert sidewinder (crotalus cerastes cercobombus), one of the first snakes cruised in my new car. This guy was flopping himself across a little used road right as I drove by. I snapped a few pictures and moved him further off the road to safety.
