🇫🇷 The finale in Paris • I've highlighted my travels across Europe this past month, but there's another journey I'm undertaking, and the primary reason I was in Europe to begin with: I was in Paris for school.📚 (MSc candidate at HEC Paris, with residencies & electives. Themes: creativity & innovation, socially-inclusive business models, digital economies. And I still work full-time as multimedia designer & front-end developer in Vancouver. 🇨🇦)
No, it's not as glamourous as it sounds. It's haarrrrd work, and the 1.5-hour train commutes between Paris and Versailles-Chantiers / Jouy-en-Josas were not the highlights of my day. There was that late night when I threw a glass across the room in that tiny apartment, because I was mad and exhausted but had to focus and study. I also ate too many macarons.🍭 (Does that count as suffering?) And I hauled a humongous luggage from train to train across Europe, trying to protect NOT the clothes, but the precious computers and books I had locked & hidden somewhere.
But, I chose this life. Bitching about train commutes in Europe is a privilege. The earth is in crisis, vulnerable people are being displaced, there's hunger & strife everywhere, animal & plant species are diminishing at a rapid rate...
And yet here I am, young and healthy, weaving the best parts of my life together. With struggles, for sure, but shielded from the worst global shit so far, and with some capacity to (re-)imagine and impact the future in front of me.
And so I keep going even when I question WTF I just got myself into. 80% of the time I feel insane.
The journey continues. ✨
