The Alte Brücke seems to exude the “classic sexy” look. But the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke is the “everyday functional,” complete with residents and commuters; with bicycles, cars, trucks, buses, and trams.
There are multiple free-of-charge views of Heidelberg from around town, and if you’ve got the time and energy, you will walk across Theodor-Heuss-Brücke to cross the Neckar and go between Altstadt and Neuenheim. Don’t forget about the Saturday farmers’ market at Neuenheim’s Marktplatz, the visual gold waiting for you on Philosophenweg, and all the tanning and all the picnicking on the Neckarwiese. You’ll stop midway on the bridge and enjoy the view of the Neckar river, the Altstadt, the Schloß, and Königstuhl.

To help illuminate the question of what “home” really means, I’m posting an image every day this month from the German university town of Heidelberg. Click on the link in my profile for full images, more details, and personal observations.
