In the last years of the 1880s, Neculai N. Ghika brought an Italian architect, building materials and craftsmen from abroad, in order to build a grand #mansion. Once completed, it was used as as a hunting lodge by the family.
The #picturesque mansion combines #Neogothic and #Renaissance elements, giving visitors a glimpse of how the #aristocracy started embracing western ideals.
During the Second World War, between 1941-1944, the mansion was used as general headquarters of the #Wehrmacht. After the Romanians switched sides against Nazi Germany, the whole estate was devastated by the Soviet army.
Today, the #estate is privately owned and used for events. It is also one of our #castlebreakdestinations. As seen on @castlebreakro #moldovaaristocrata
