Do you Raku?
My opinions of raku are the epitome of a love hate relationship. First the loves: colors colors colors. The depth, range, movement, and radiance that can be achieved by rakuing are unbeatable, I love them! Then there's the time, my impatient self loves the instant-ness of the raku process (and I loathe the decade it takes for a conventional firing). Then there's the smell. Many dislike raku for this reason. But I love that smokey smell, reminiscent of a warm wood fire (with s'mores of course).
What do I dislike about raku? The biggest one is that, glaze wise, it can be a crap shoot. Raku glazes are like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're going to get. Which drives my perfectionism out the wazoo! My other main dislike is that raku'd pieces aren't functional.
So there it is. The loves win. ...except with this piece. After a less than stellar first attempt I re-fired this one. Only to have the color come out even farther from what I wanted and it cracked on the side. Depspite not being the color I hoped for I am in love the interstellar galaxy I ended up with 😍😍
