HELLO, my name is Rei Kawakubo
Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese designer known for her work under her label Comme Des Garçons. The brand, French for "like the boys", was created by Kawakubo and her husband Adrian Joffe serves as its president. For Rei, if nothing original is produced, then progress is not possible. The CDG design ethos is that the equivalent to ‘new’ is ‘creation’ which explains the multitudes of lines that are housed under Kawakubo's label: Play Comme des Garçons, Tricot Comme Des Garçons, Comme Des Garçons Homme Plus... Rei is not only involved with the creative department of her business, she also focuses on other aspects other than accessories and clothes. She also shows a keen interest in the interiors of her shops, advertising and promotion of her label as well as graphic designing." I design the company, not pieces of clothing," Kawakubo told Dezeen.
Black is Rei's color. The designer has mastered creative control over the hue as it is prevalent in most of her collections. Comme des Garçons is famous for its austere, anti-fashion and at times deconstructed apparel. The fabrics were draped and frayed, with rough edges and asymmetrical shapes.
