🇦🇺 Last night I allowed myself the anti-social behaviour I desired. After a walk up and down the Yarra, and a coffee listening to the busker at Degraves, I was back in the hostel by 9 30 with a drink and my journal. While it was what I wanted, I had to sit with the idea that I should be doing more. A Friday night in Melbourne. Shouldn’t I indulge in the night life? I did not. I went to my dorm. I read in bed. I turned in by 11pm. All night long I heard people partying on the street below. I listened as my roommates trickled in. 1am, 2am, 3am. I thought, “I have missed something.” But i accepted it. I convinced myself that my early start to the next day would justify the early end to the last.
By 7am I was up. I quickly dressed, packed my bag, and headed down to the kitchen. As I prepared a piece of toast, a man I wished a good night to while brushing my teeth the previous day, stood beside me. We chatted. He told me he would be renting a car today, and that he’d be driving to the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road. He invited me. I went.
I suppose the moral is, one door closes, another opens. Have patience through the night, or you may miss the goodness that the morning will bring.
This picture was taken during that day trip along the Great Ocean Road on the southern coast of Australia.
