There's a reason they call it a rainbow boa... While the actual color of the snake is a burnt red with black pattern, there are micro structures on the scales that create an iridescent sheen when the light hits them. The effect is magical. I was once climbing up a strangler fig, high into the canopy. I climbed passed the understory and the mid-story, and up into the canopy. Then higher. There were so many latticed poles and vines from the fig that I was able to climb high without worrying about falling. Eventually there were troops of monkeys below me. I reached the crown where the branches spread out and the height made me dizzy. There curled in the bowl between the branches, in a massive bromeliad, was a rainbow boa as thick as my arm, nearly 7 feet long. The morning sun struck the scales so that the entire snake was glowing--rainbows and reds in the dark green and earthy tones. The snake took little notice of me. She just sat there tangled up in herself, as comfortable and mesmerizing as only a snake can be. We spent the sunrise up there, above the amazon, where aracari's and macaws passed by. In the Amazon, there's treasure everywhere. .
