My gardening club. Yesterday, I let them poke holes and plant lettuce seeds on their own in a few temporarily empty squares. Having a garden with kids isn't always what I envision. It's a lot of: "No, don't pick the plants in the garden! Remember we talked about that!" And, "Don't dump all your water on that one square. Go water a different square," and "No digging in the garden!" But it's all worth it when I see the joy on their faces as they watch the plants grow and as I allow them to help me care for the garden. Also, disclaimer, this is our first time having a vegetable garden and it's a huge learning curve. We used pallets to make a raised bed. See my stories for more pictures on how we made this almost free garden bed. I was skeptical anything would grow. But now we have more babies, lots of little green-leafed babies!!! 🌱 . . #stellajella #calebbud #wonderfulwinterland #winterclan #letthembelittle #kidswhoexplore #candid #visualsoflife #honestmotherhood #momlife #gardeningclub #garden #ediblegarden #raisedbeds #pnwbabies #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodinspired #pnw #pnwlife #visualsoflife #reallife #candid #wa #wanderwashington #washington #upperleftusa #instagood #getoutside

You can find beautiful nature in the city if you just go looking for it. Sometimes it can feel like you’re trapped in a concrete jungle. But even city parks can provide a nice foray into the trees. . . . #spaceneedle #seattlecenter #seattle

I have a very loud voice. I’ve used it to captivate the attention of groups of students, to call out for friends in a crowd, and especially to advocate and stand up for people and say what needs to be said with power and authority. * Sometimes it embarrasses me. Like when I get a little tipsy and start loudly espousing ideas that no one wants to hear, or (inevitably) above the bolt on lead when I throw a raging royal tantrum that echoes off the walls around me reverberating my fear and frustration. * Recently my therapist asked me what it would look like if I stood up for myself to myself the way I do against external oppressors. I can be so mean to myself - if someone else told me I wasn’t good enough or strong enough or that everyone thinks I’m fake I’d rage and yell and take them down. But when I say it to myself I just crumple. * So I’m going to try using my voice against my inner critic. I’m going to try being aggressively supportive of myself against myself. It’s ok to get terrified above the bolt on a chossy 5.8. It’s ok if I didn’t climb my hardest. I’m not out here for anyone except me. So there, me.

Have you ever secretly asked yourself, "What the heck is wrong with me"? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Don't worry, it's totally normal... until it's not. 😖 So many of us blame ourselves or believe there must be something wrong if we feel something negative, especially over a period of time that seems “unreasonable”. 😭 And whether we know or it not, what often happens is we begin to start a NEW cycle of suffering by feeling bad ABOUT feeling bad! 👇🏻 In this podcast, we will be discussing the law of polarity, why our brains are wired to seek negative emotions, THE question to ask yourself to bust through the negative cycle, and how to ease into an uncomfortable emotion so you can start feeling better. 🧠 Listen to the full episode! The sun was trying to make my life difficult for this one. It insisted on shining directly on the splash area, making it very difficult to get the proper exposure. Occasionally it would cooperate and a shadow would fall over the scene. I caught this exposure during a transition from sun to shade. One of the greatest tools you can have in photography is patience. ⏳

I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze... ~William Wordsworth Nature is so beautiful. And the beauty of that day was almost staggering. Happy Wednesday, hope you all have a beautiful day! #wildflowerwednesday

One of my goals this year was to check out Gifford Pinchot NF. So far, I’ve trekked up there a handful of times. And I can’t spot going back. The minute I saw this spot from above the waterfall. I knew, I had to find a way down into the canyon to see the bottom of the falls. Here I am under Cooper Creek Falls. There’s a short video on the second flick of my ridiculous path. shot: iphone by @kingsieu

A day in the life of a Washingtonian: ride bike after work to a hidden beach for sunset. Listen to calling gulls and barking seals. Watch the sky turn from blue to soft yellow to vibrant pinks and purples. Reflect on how grateful you are to live in such a beautiful place.

69: Leavenworth, 10 miles. Hiked an amazing new trail yesterday and it was the most perfect day ever! Hit the trail with @she_colorsnature @hafapaige , these ladies are so motivating and strong. 💪🏼 It was so great to be out with like minded people, and some BA ladies who don’t mind adding 6 miles road hiking and another 2,000 ft gain to our summit hike! I could help but be cheesin’ at the top because these views, behind me looking directly into the Enchantments Snow zone, and in front of me was the whole Wenatchee Valley and the Columbia Plateau. All of that while standing on the most photographed ridge line from Leavenworth, my hometown. It was also fun to explore the trail that nobody was sure if it existed or not all through out my life- well it does and it’s not on any maps! I can not wait to get back out with these ladies and check another new trail off the list! #kulacloth #finddyourbutte #hikewashington #pnwonderland #livewashington #pnwnative #upperleftusa #optoutside #wanderwashington #theNWadventure #outsideculture #pnwhikers #hiking_lifestyle #washingtonexplored #washingtonoutdoors #washingtontrails #trailtuesday

What’s your favorite season? For me, it’s spring! And this year, it’s been exceptional. I love the little surprises (mostly in the form of flowers, blooms & blossoms) that pop-up in a continuous sweep. Just as one fades away, another surprise makes its appearance. 🌸🌷🌼🌳 And not so related, have you shopped REI’s anniversary sale yet? We stopped by our store this past weekend, and I snagged a swimsuit for myself, and a pair of rain boots for Georgia (for the fall). Definitely recommend checking out their outlet section online!

My pack was too heavy - around 33lbs. I don't understand people who brag about carrying heavy packs. Cut down on weight anyway you can. It's dangerous and pointless to do otherwise. Mine was heavy due to needing extra bedding for the cold. That, and I was carrying the Intrepid 4x5. Granted, it's the lightest of all field cameras, but that, along with three lenses (two to many), a half dozen film holders and a tripod made it dangerously unwieldy. After spying the rock, I left the old cow trail to get a closer look. I stumbled and went down hard, the weight of my pack throwing me forward. Though I did my best to mitgate the damages to the camera around my neck, I neglected to save my head, which slammed itself into a rock conveniently left by a glacier 18,000 years ago to serve just this purpose. I was wearing a hat which blunted the hit some. I still had a lovely gash in my head. Fortunately, I was okay. No birds or stars. I shook it off and set up the next shot, thankful that my stupidity has yet to murder me. . . . 'Toward' Camera: Exakta VX1000 Lens: A.
